Problem description

Recently classified in a UN report as the 16th most threatened city in the world – when we are talking about the advance of the sea – the Recife shoreline, which was once the main tourist spot in the city, has become a crossing point. In addition to climate problems, shark attacks and the predominance of residential use, placed Orla outside the tourist route, generating environmental, social and economic problems. What was not noticed is that the commercial repression applied by the residents of the region and the precarious daytime partial use of the sand strip – by stallholders and kiosks – over the years discouraged the presence and use of the public space by the various users, always in the discourse that on the Orla you can’t do anything.Having identified the problem, and mapped the high potential for a park city – due to its geographic flatness and extensive connection with the sea -, we could not fail to have as our main guideline the increase in people’s permanence, with a focus on reoccupying.Over an 11km length and approximately 120,000m² of area, the reoccupation will take place through three pillars: the rescue of native flora – linked to shading, the increase in the sidewalk – from the suppression of a section of the highway – ithout advancing to the sea – , and implementation of micro parks along the promenade, generating new points of concentration of people, giving life to the new “Orla Parque do Recife”.The project foresees the structuring of the entire urbanized boardwalk, contemplating the neighborhoods of Setúbal, Boa Viagem, Pina and Brasília Formosa, completely connected, with infrastructure in – sanitation, supply and network, generating conditions to receive the most varied services, with forecast to impact on the life of more than half of the city’s population. #recifeeparaficar
