Dialogues with Brazil.

August 28 to September 1 2023, Berlin, Germany

Workshop 3, Green

Workshop 3, main objective

Workshop three’s main objective is to strengthen project operations proposals for nature-based solutions with strategies that increase cost-efficiency in favor of vulnerable groups.

Healthy urban ecosystems are the base of healthy communities and human well-being. In sustainable planning, nature-based solutions are a tool to improve urban ecosystems and restore air, soil, and water quality from the effects of rainwater runoff, urban heat, and biotope loss. They provide human health and enhance livelihood benefits that contribute to multiple Sustainable Development Goals.
However, without a planning focus on equity and justice, nature-based solutions risk exacerbating inequities.
Workshop 3 discusses the importance of attention to distributional, procedural, and recognitional equity in urban green infrastructure development. It reviews examples of real-world programs and strategies to improve equity and justice outcomes. The day’s task is to prepare an Operations Development Proposal for nature-based solutions that integrate sustainable development goals for health, communities, climate action, and biodiversity.
